Antivirus Program Removal Tools

It often happens that antivirus programs fail to uninstall (or install) properly, often due to the presence of a virus or other malware. This can prevent you from installing other antivirus software, and cause other system performance and stability issues.

So what can you do if Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel does not work (called Uninstall a Program in Windows Vista)?

Most common antivirus programs have special utilities available that will help you remove all traces of the antivirus software.

If you need a new Antivirus program, I strongly recommend AVG Antivirus for power and stability.

I have literally, as of this writing, only had to use this tool once, but thank God it was available, because I really needed it! If you find that you have to remove AVG Antivirus, and the Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall a Program software is not working, this is exactly what you need.

Several times I have run the "normal" F-Secure uninstall program in Add/Remove Programs, only to find that nothing has been removed! A quick check on the Internet shows that I am not alone; F-Secure is plagued with uninstallation issues. Happily, they also provide an F-Secure Uninstallation Tool to clean up the mess.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a powerful spyware and antivirus tool that has frequently been the only thing to properly detect and fix a serious infection. If you have trouble with the program, download mban-clean.exe, run it, reboot, and reinstall.

I often have to uninstall Norton Antivirus! For years, Norton Antivirus has been plagued by stability and performance issues, and slowing down many computers to the point where they are virtually unusable. All too often, the primary problem with a computer I have been called in to fix is simply the fact that it is running Norton Antivirus. If you are using Norton Antivirus, I strongly suggest that you switch to using AVG Antivirus.
